Empowering Black & Brown Girls to Learn, Lead & Innovate with AI.
Our Mission
Black Girl Ai exists to empower the next generation of young Black and Brown girls to transition from consumers of technology to visionary creators, AI innovators, and leaders. We believe every girl deserves to see herself as a builder of the future — and that technology belongs to her too.
The Virtual Academy
The Virtual Academy introduces girls to AI and technology in an approachable, creative, and empowering way. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities, discovery cards, and a friendly AI guide named Kehlani, girls explore:
Our Story: How Black Girl Ai Began
Ayana Elon, Founder & CEO
Welcome to Black Girl Ai, a community that started with a simple idea and grew into something much bigger. Back in early 2023, I was teaching Midjourney sessions to Black women I'd connected with through a Facebook group. I shared countless images I created, which they turned into t-shirts, notebooks, ornaments, cups, and more. While I sold some of my work, I gave away much of it, inspired by their creativity.
The turning point came when these women started asking if I could teach their daughters too. That's when I realized how I could make a real difference. Black girls need to learn AI just as much as anyone else. I'd already developed a deep passion for this technology, and I knew how important it was to make sure these girls wouldn't get left behind as our world becomes more tech-driven.
That's how Black Girl Ai was born.
As CEO today, I've expanded our community to welcome all BIPOC girls because diversity and inclusion aren't just things I talk about. I'm a dedicated advocate for both. We may have started in 2023 and built some amazing connections along the way, but honestly? We're just getting started. With big plans and incredible people now supporting us, we're ready to really make our mark.
